Solanum rantonnetii
Blue Potato Bush
Oakland, CA
December, 2014
- This is the focal point tree over a waterfall feature in a Japanese-style garden
- Though the species is a little out of place in the context of the garden, it is easily adaptable to pruning for the weeping habit typically found in this situation
- Waterproof boots must be worn as much of the tree is inaccessible without standing in the waterfall
- These clients like things to stay immaculate. I see this garden every few months and usually have a half an hour's worth of sprouts to take off of this tree. Once a year I give it a thorough two hour session
- This is my fifth and most recent pruning of the tree. Every time I see it I am able to make more progressive structural cuts to keep it small and bring out the arching lift which makes weeping trees so exciting
