Chamaecyparis obtusa
Hinoki Cypress
Alameda, CA
November, 2011

  • This tree is in the forefront of the garden.  Left unpruned, it blends in with the masses of the background plantings
  • Foliage was opened up from the center to allow views of the trunks and branches
  • There is a double trunk, which is not optimal, but removing one would leave the overall structure marred and gaping on one half of the plant
  • I prune this tree once a year, it only needs relatively light work, as it holds its shape pretty well
