Pinus densiflora
Japanese Red Pine
Oakland, CA
December, 2013
- This was part of a trio of Pines, each of a different size, which formed a small grove theme
- Pruning was done to keep all three in a similar style, while trying to find and display the individuality of each
- This garden was decades old and there was already a great structure in the tree. It had been four years since it had been pruned, though, so some effort was needed to find it again and make a few changes in direction of my own
- This tree is seen twice a year. The summer growth is always strong and requires a lot of time intensive work. The three trees together always need about eight hours to complete.
